📷 Patrick Rüegg“To your right, beneath the image of Saint Charles Borromeo praying at the foot of the cross, you will find the installation U.N.A.I.D.S. by Spanish artist Samuel Perea-Díaz. The work, composed of a spherical sound box and an electric cable engraved with graffiti, symbolically represents the heartbeat frequency corresponding to the global number of deaths from AIDS-related causes. The artwork is displayed “switched off,” not connected to the internet, as a protest against the planned shutdown in 2026 – due to funding cuts – of U.N.A.I.D.S., the largest UN-recognized data collection system on the epidemic. The installation’s real and emotional “silence” becomes, at the same time, a resounding appeal to resume speaking about AIDS/HIV correctly, scientifically, socially, and anthropologically, without hiding the stigma that still affects people living with HIV.”
