With an academic background in Architecture (Universidad de Sevilla) and an MA in Sound Studies and Sonic Arts (Berlin University of the Arts), Samuel has dedicated over a decade to interior design, museum scenography, and exhibition design. His artwork investigates auditory perception, archival practices, and acoustic architecture, producing audiovisual works that engage with sonification, sound relocation, and field recording. Samuel has created listening walks, recording workshops, and site-specific installations for various cultural institutions. He has participated in several group shows at nGbK (2025), C3A (2024), daadgalerie (2024), Berghain Halle (2024), Haus der Statistik (2024), WeAreVillage (2024–2023), Errant Bodies (2023), TA T (2021–2022), 48Hours Neukölln (2021), and CLB (2019). He has also taken part in festivals such as the Electroacoustic Music Festival of Sound Art Kontakte’19 (2019) and the Sound Art Biennial Dystopia (2024). His curatorial work includes projects such as Viral Intimacies (2025)&nbsp;at nGbK, An AIDS Walkthrough (2023) at WeAreVillage, and Ocaña (2022) at the Schwules Museum. Samuel’s academic research centers on counter-mapping the sonic city and investigates the impact of HIV/AIDS on sound-focused art. He is currently a research fellow and Ph.D. candidate in Fine Arts at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), where he pursues practice-based artistic research doctoral studies by listening to archives of HIV/AIDS. He has worked as a lecturer at Humboldt University of Berlin (2019–2026) and at the Berlin University of the Arts (2023-2026), teaching seminars and workshops on sound mapping and curating. Total dimension 50 x 350 cm. These words are the transcription of an aural testimony from an incarcerated person, found in the Tabakalera Archive. The testimony was discovered on a videotape and was originally part of a 1994 sound installation produced by the collective The Carrying Society. The installation, Como una Antorcha, Espacios Sonoros, contains 30 hours of testimonies from people living with AIDS in Spain. In 2022, I found this one-minute audio testimony on a videotape in the archive of the cultural institution Tabakalera (San Sebastián). The other twenty-nine hours of sonic testimonies and the voices of other incarcerated people remain lost. The embroidery translates the sound of these voices into text, using red thread on red fabric. Este testimonio, de un minuto, forma parte originalmente de la instalación sonora de 1994 Como una Antorcha, Espacios Sonoros, producida por el colectivo The Carrying Society, que contiene 30 horas de testimonios de personas que vivían con VIH/Sida en España. El bordado media el sonido de esta voz en texto, utilizando hilo rojo sobre tela roja. La obra fue encargada por Queer Mater (WeAreVillage/instinct) y producida en el contexto de un doctorado artístico en Bellas Artes en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, como parte de una investigación financiada por la Fundación “la Caixa”. La exposición se realizó en el marco de la celebración del Día Mundial del Sida. The work consists of two sheep bells, each containing a small loudspeaker and wool inside its cavity. Activated by the human hand rather than by the movement of the animal, the bells play back their own recorded sound: a reactivation of the ringing they once produced when they were worn. What remains is only the gesture of calling, while the animal itself is absent. In Lesbos, sheep bells serve both a practical and a deeply spatial function: they allow shepherds to locate their flocks across mountainous terrain often covered by fog, where sight fails but sound continues to travel. Each bell has a distinct tuning, giving every animal an acoustic identity within the flock. The soundscape created by these bells forms a living geography of sound a continuous signal of presence, movement, and collective well-being. Τhe sound piece presented responds to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease and the mass culling it requires. This crisis does not merely eliminate animals; it erases an entire sonic ecology. The sound of the bells, relocated into themselves, calls without a body to follow, a mourning that takes the form of repetition, and a question about what listening means when what we are listening for is no longer there. This two-week-long art show will take place in April 2023 at Village, a queer community and cultural center located in Berlin. The exhibition seeks to address important questions, such as how to pass on and honor the memory of a traumatic period in our history, how to show hope for the end of the pandemic with treatments that work, and how to ensure that we do not forget that the fight is not over, especially for our friends who live in countries where prevention and treatment are non-existent.&nbsp;To articulate a dialogue between artists and visitors, the exhibition is divided into three groups that explore the various dimensions of the disease. The first group, "Before 1996," features works that examine the devastating impact of AIDS on the LGBTQ+ community and the inadequate response of the healthcare system to the crisis. The second group, "1996 to the present," showcases works that celebrate the advances in medical treatments and the significant improvements in the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS. The third group, "Today," focuses on the current challenges and opportunities in the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS and highlights the need for continued research, funding, and political will to make HIV treatment and prevention accessible to all who need it. Der Engel, der in der Qual singt” is the first exhibition in Germany about Andalusian artist José Pérez Ocaña (1947-1983). The show focuses on his stay in Berlin, when he presented the documentary “Ocaña, Retrat Intermitent” (“Ocaña, Intermittent Portrait”) at the 1979 film festival. Ocaña created unapologetic queer art during the Spanish political transition of the 1970s. With his colorful paintings, cross-dressing performances and activism, he is an example of overcoming and an inspiration for future generations. During the series (curated by Tautvydas Urbelis, Noah Brehmer and Miglė Babickaitė) the concept of ‘regeneration’ became a tool to explore multifaceted interaction between city, culture, art and politics. Resisting the temptation to reduce the city’s complexity into the binary opposition of ‘us’ vs ‘them’, specialists from different disciplines introduced strategies for activating positive urban and architectural development through art, aesthetics and sound. The talks and accompanying events showed that ‘regeneration’ escapes boundaries of one discipline and is a promising lens to think about different urban futures.Inspired and guided by these efforts, the book ‘Regeneration [and its Discontents]’ expanded some of the key ideas of the talk series and looked towards the potential futures of speculative and real urban environments. The image of weeds breaking through concrete articulates the physicalisation of the will to transform in alien environments; to become new, to regenerate. ‘Regeneration [and its discontents]’ are all the collections of the intricate root systems that permeate the modern city, interacting with the material and immaterial (infa)structures. Starting in the 1980s, many English-speaking Western companies outsourced customer service jobs to former British colonies including India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, where labour costs are lower and regulatory frameworks more relaxed. Today, companies are taking advantage of information technology business process outsourcing (IT BPO) to replace human customer services and personal assistants with artificial intelligence. Delegation and agency enter into an ecology of labour and exploitation that becomes apparent in this installation. A generative soundscape of AI-synthesized call centres and office environments is translated through machine-listening algorithms into light and sound impulses. Enclosures of obsolete neon ceiling lights function as resonant boxes that refer to the architectural and physical environments of overcrowded offices. The absence of neon bars is replaced by digitally controllable LEDs, enhancing the contradiction between obsolete materials and newer technologies. Headsets enable visitors to experience the sound environment and influence the outcome of the installation.
